Trollwood Performing Arts School is a unique youth arts education and leadership organization that operates as a program of the Fargo Public Schools. We present performing and production arts learning opportunities for students ages 6 through graduated high school seniors. In 2018, Trollwood will offer 12 youth arts programs.

We are currently kicking off winter programming at Trollwood with our Musical Theatre Audition Techniques class which will be held on Jan 20, 21, 27, and 28; and our free audition workshop on January 21. We will hold another session of our Trollwood Children’s Theatre (TCT) coming up at the end of March for fourth and fifth grade students. This group of young people will present Disney’s 101 Dalmatians KIDS in late April.
Beginning in June, we will offer a wide variety of programming options for students from ages six through graduated seniors. As Trollwood celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year, our Mainstage Musical program will harken back to our roots of classical musical theater with the spectacular, Hello Dolly! There are numerous opportunities for students to participate in this exciting adventure. Whether part of the cast, the orchestra, or as a technician in one of the show’s technical areas – sound, lights, scenic, hair and makeup, stage management, or costuming – all high school students are invited to be a part of this larger than life production. Cast auditions will be held February 3-5 with callbacks on February 6 and 7. Orchestra auditions will follow on February 26–March 3. Call the Trollwood office at 218.477.6500 to sign up for a cast or orchestra audition slot.
Our youngest students may benefit from one or more of the week-long sessions of ArtSpark. There will be 14 sessions available in 2018 throughout June and July. This program provides an opportunity to explore the world of theatre with basic training in dance, acting, and vocal music for elementary aged students. Each week-long session ends with a special performance for family and friends.
Other highlights of the 2018 summer include our Trollwood Academy and Conservatory programs, consisting of more than 40 classes in the performing and production arts for high school students of all skill levels. In addition, Totally Trollwood Academy offers a special curriculum for the middle school student to explore opportunities in theatre arts. High school aged students may also apply for acceptance in our Student Leadership program, where they have the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional artists and receive mentorship from that artist in their chosen discipline.
Our Totally Trollwood Musical for middle school students will present Honk Jr. This program will take place at North High School in July with performances July 31 and August 1. This program tends to fill quickly, so early registration is recommended!
New to Trollwood this summer is The Trollwood Players. This program will give students the chance to perform an original work written by Kevin Kennedy titled, Odds and Ends. Not only did Kevin, drama teacher at South High, write this play, but he will also be directing this non-musical production for high school students and it will take place at South High from July 16-August 10.
In addition to these youth arts opportunities, we continue to work closely with our partner, Jade Presents, to create an exciting 2018 summer concert series at Bluestem Center for the Arts. Look for an exciting announcement coming soon for a sneak peak of concerts coming to the Bluestem Amphitheater this summer with more announcements to follow this spring!
