Trollwood Unveils 2017 Programs

By TPAS Executive Director Kathy Anderson

Trollwood Performing Arts School is a unique youth arts education and leadership organization that operates as a program of the Fargo Public Schools. We present performing and production arts learning opportunities for students ages 6 through graduated high school seniors. In 2017, Trollwood will offer 12 youth arts programs.

Trollwood Performing Arts School registrations are now open for the 2017 summer season! Take advantage of registration discounts at our Early Registration Party on Friday, January 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bluestem Center for the Arts in Moorhead. Turn in registration forms at this event or prior to this event with the special promotional code of “SAVE 2017” to save $70 on registration fees for all middle school and high school programming; save $20 on the ArtSpark registration fee. Staff will be on hand to answer questions during this open house event.

We are currently kicking off winter programming at Trollwood with our Musical Theatre Audition Techniques class starting January 22 and our free audition workshop on January 29. We will hold another session of our Trollwood Children’s Theatre (TCT) coming up at the end of March for fourth and fifth grade students. This group of young people will present Seussical Kids in late April.

""Beginning in June, we will offer a wide variety of programming options for students from ages six through graduated seniors. Our largest high school program, the Mainstage Musical, will enchant you this summer as we present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. There are numerous opportunities for students to participate in this exciting adventure. Whether part of the cast, the orchestra, or as a technician in one of the show’s technical areas – sound, lights, scenic, hair & makeup, stage management, or costuming – all high school students are invited to be a part of this magical production. Cast auditions will be held February 25–28. Orchestra auditions will follow on March 6–12. Call the Trollwood office at 218.477.6500 to sign up for a slot.  Continued…

Our youngest students may benefit from one or more of the week-long sessions of ArtSpark. There are 12 sessions available in 2017 throughout June, July, and August. This program provides an opportunity to explore the world of theatre with basic training in dance, acting, and vocal music for elementary aged students. Each week-long session ends with a special performance for family and friends.

Other highlights of the 2017 summer include our Trollwood Academy and Conservatory programs, consisting of over 40 classes in the performing and production arts for high school students of all skill levels. In addition, Totally Trollwood Academy offers a special curriculum for the middle school student to explore opportunities in theatre arts. High school aged students may also apply for acceptance in our Student Leadership program, where they have the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional artists and receive mentorship from that artist in their chosen discipline.

Our Totally Trollwood Musical for middle school students will present Madagascar Jr. This program will take place at North High School in July with performances August 1 and 2. This program tends to fill quickly, so early registration is recommended!

For our second year, Trollwood is joining up with the Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre (FMCT) to offer the Actors ColLABorative Theatre (LAB). This program will give students the chance to perform in David Ives’ All in the Timing and will be held July 17-August 12.

In addition to these youth arts opportunities, we continue to work closely with our partner, Jade Presents, to create an exciting 2017 summer concert series at Bluestem Center for the Arts. Already announced is the legendary Tony Bennett on June 1. For tickets and additional concerts as they are announced, visit www.JadePresents.com.

For more detailed information on all of these arts education and performance possibilities, visit www.trollwood.org or call 218.477.6500. We would love to have you join us this summer!
