Don’t Look At Me!

Tonight a group of sixth grade students at Discovery Middle School will take to the stage in the hopes of changing the attitudes and perceptions that people have about being “different.”

Instructor Bill Lucas has been working with the 45 students since mid-December on an anti-bullying play, “Don’t Look At Me!” He authored the script for the 30-minute play with input from his cast. The group came up with a series of vignettes that illustrate how people are different from one another, how that leads to mistreatment, and our personal responsibility to one another.

The play is done almost entirely without props. Its first vignette is serious, but much of the remainder uses humor where appropriate. The performance concludes with students united onstage for an adapted-lyric version of Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger.”

On Wednesday, the students put on a matinee performance for their sixth grade classmates. Tonight’s performance for parents and the general public begins at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. It is free.

Discovery Middle School is located at 1717 South 40th Avenue, Fargo.
