During October and November, buildings across the District brought in non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the student-led Fill The Dome drive that annually restocks the shelves of the Great Plains Food Bank and the area food banks it serves. The 2012 effort as of last week was nearing food stocks to supply half a million meals. Way to go, young citizens!
We’ve received several snapshots of activity from around the school district, and wanted to share them with you. Some buildings included details on their local efforts. Scroll down and enjoy!
Lewis and Clark Elementary – Students and staff filled 28 boxes to contribute to the effort.
Ben Franklin Middle School – Students at BFMS have annual events during their fundraising, including a “Cans On The Corner” morning drop-off event over several days for neighborhood residents. This year, COTC collected $136 cash in addition to a Hat Day event, which raised $416. Add that to the school’s scale-weighed donations of 2,934 lbs!
Carl Ben Eielson Middle School – All counted, CBE students and staff collected 5691 items and $500. The 6th grade collected 1,909 items; the 7th grade collected 1,815 items; and the 8th grade collected 1,967 items.
North, South and Davies High Schools – No official totals were available, just that they collected “a lot!”
Food and monetary donations are still being accepted through the end of December. For more information, visit the Fill The Dome website.
