Fargo hosting area educators’ “tech camp” this week

For three days this week, area K-12 teachers have become students.

“Summer Tech Camp,” simply named for its wide variety of courses and sessions, began Tuesday at Davies High School in south Fargo.

The camp, which runs through Thursday, has 476 teachers enrolled from the school districts of Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

All four districts have become partners for this year’s event, which is designed to expose teachers and administrators to new technology through their peers rather than vendor representatives, contains general and breakout sessions led by technology experts from those districts.

From Web 2.0 tools to Moodle and SMARTBoards, the sessions use in-class examples of both the successes and pitfalls of the different technologies, giving educators useful ways how to refine or implement the new knowledge in their classrooms next fall.

Summer Tech Camp originated as a Fargo Public Schools-only event nearly two decades ago. This is the first year of multi-district involvement.
