Davies world language students spring into action

The top fundraising team of Davies foreign language students.

March was National Foreign Languages Month. In recognition, the Davies World Language Department organized a school-wide fundraiser to raise money for Heifer International.

For more than 65 years, Heifer International has worked to help improve the lives of families who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income.  Since 1944, Heifer has helped more than 12 million families in more than 125 countries, including the United States, by providing gifts of livestock as well as training in environmentally-sound agriculture to families in need.

For this event, all Davies world language students were part of a team competing to raise money for this worthwhile organization.  Each day during the week of March 12-16, students donated loose change in their language classrooms.  Delicious prizes were given to the three top-donating teams:

1st place, Team Pig (French III, Latin II/III/IV, Spanish I, Spanish II) donated $369
2nd place, Team Sheep (French II, French IV, German II, Spanish 1B) donated $313
3rd place, Team Rabbit (Chinese II/III, French 1B, Latin I, Spanish III) donated $282

Throughout the week, each Davies student also had the opportunity to donate in the Commons area and add a personalized animal cutout to the “farmyard.”  All together, Davies donated $2,185.00.

All money raised will be donated to a special Heifer International matching project in Vietnam where the government will double the amount given by donors.  This project will impact more than 1,400 families in the Mekong Delta region by providing cows, small animals, and training in sustainable farming.
