Planning is underway for Fargo Snow Bash 2011, a drug- and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve event for Fargo students in grades 9-12 from Fargo North, South, Davies, Woodrow Wilson, Shanley and Oak Grove High Schools. This year’s venue will be from 9:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. at the Dike West sledding hill and chalet, and the downtown YMCA. Students can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, including sledding, snowboarding, bonfire, games, open gym, swimming pool, and video dance. Door prizes, pizza and beverages will also be provided at no cost to students.
Ironically, last year’s Snow Bash was cancelled due to one of the winter’s most severe blizzards. Community support for the event was strong, with several individuals and area businesses providing financial and material donations. We are once again asking for the community’s assistance to ensure our students have a safe, supervised activity on New Year’s Eve. Donations to support Snow Bash can be sent to the Fargo South High School PTSA, 1840 15th Avenue South, Fargo, ND 58103, c/o Snow Bash Committee, or dropped off at the Fargo South main office.
We are also in need of adult chaperones to help supervise, both at the YMCA and Dike West. Parent volunteers may contact Snow Bash Chairperson Phyllis Poss at email@example.com or me at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Special recognition is well deserved for our many Snow Bash supporters: Fargo area PTSA’s, Fargo Public Schools, Fargo Police Department, Fargo Park District and the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties. I would like to recognize and thank the Fargo South PTSA for their willingness to take the lead on this event and for their ongoing support.
