E.L.L. “Smart Cycling” class graduates

Four Fargo Public Schools students empowered themselves through a two-wheeled pilot program held at South High School last week.

On July 22, the Fargo Police Department and Fargo Public Schools  concluded a first-ever, weeklong bicycle safety education course for students enrolled as English Language Learners.

The program had four students – from Nepal, Bhutan, Somalia and Afghanistan.  Its focus included 10 hours of instruction from Fargo PD Bike Patrol officers on bicycle handling and safety skills, basic maintenance, and rides on local trails and routes.

Area businesses and organizations sponsored the program, including Fargo Walmart stores (bicycles), Safe Kids Fargo-Moorhead (bike helmets), and the Fargo Police Department.  Students were allowed to keep the bicycles and equipment following their completion of the course.
