Students connect to pop artist Jackson Harris via South alum

Mrs. Pederson's 4th grade class

A group of students at Bennett Elementary has made an unusual connection with upcoming pop artist Jackson Harris.  Students in teacher Marlys Pederson’s 4th grade class performed a group rendition of Harris’s single, “Long Story Short,” in January.

Pederson’s son, Ross – a 2003 South High graduate – is one of the top call drummers in New York City, and holds the gig as the drummer for the Jackson Harris band.  Home in Fargo for a visit in January, Ross visited his mother’s classroom, and filmed the students performing their version of the single.  The video footage returned with Ross to the Big Apple.  Last week, Harris’s PR people posted the 4th graders’ rendition on YouTube.  It is now also posted on the wall of Harris’s Facebook page.

Ross Pederson is visible several times in Jackson Harris’s video, also viewable on YouTube.  According to Marlys, the video was filmed in New York over two days in July 2010, in 90-degree heat.

No official word yet on whether Jackson is bringing his sound to Fargo, or to that particular 4th grade classroom.  But stay tuned.
